Policy Analysis and Advocacy Training for Community-based Participatory Research Practitioners

Public policies have an enormous impact on our personal health and well-being, and that of our communities.Community-based research partnerships are uniquely qualified to devise and propose healthy public policies. In this half-day training CBPR practitioners will learn how to design a policy change project from the ground up, as well as, how to use completed research to impact policy. Cassandra Ritas, MPP will present an overview of policy analysis and advocacy techniques, and discuss their application in the partnership context. Ms. Ritas is a Kennedy School graduate, who has worked extensively in partnership and in government, as an advocate and policymaker.

Social Forces and System Dynamics that Influence Health:
An Experiential Conference

July 17 - 19, 2008 at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, Oregon (15 minutes from Portland)

This three-day conference will engage participants in examining social systems and collective behaviors that demonstrate how system dynamics in communities and social institutions influence health. Those who work in public health and health care or who lead nonprofit organizations that provide services to disenfranchised members of our communities are encouraged to attend. Partial scholarships are available.

2008 Healthy Environment Forum
A program of the Oregon Environmental Council, the Healthy Environment Forum series brings health professionals and environmentalists together to learn about emerging issues, to exchange views openly and honestly, to build understanding and cooperation, and to forge consensus about the linkages between some of Oregon’s most difficult environmental and health challenges. The series is designed for physicians and other health care providers, especially those in Family Medicine and Pediatrics, and for environmental professionals and interested citizens.

All events are from 6-8 pm at the Doubletree Hotel-Lloyd Center in Portland.
