Investing In A Healthy Future: Strategies For Addressing The Nursing Shortage

In March 2001, the Northwest Health Foundation released Oregon's Nursing Shortage: A Public Health Crisis In The Making. The report revealed that the state's worsening shortage could adversely affect patient care and the safety and morale of the nursing work force, and drive up the cost of health care. The report also identified the complex causes of the shortage, and a number of opportunities to positively influence both the recruitment and retention of professional nurses in Oregon and southwest Washington.

In April 2003 NWHF announced its first strategic initiative, a five-year commitment to address the crisis: Investing In A Healthy Future: Strategies For Addressing The Nursing Shortage.
